Getting to Cambridge

If you're flying from the US, you will almost certainly be landing at Heathrow or Gatwick airports. If you're traveling alone, the best way to go is to take the train. Take the Heathrow Express to Paddington Station, then either a cab or the Underground to King's Cross. Trains leave King's Cross for Cambridge frequently...if you can, get a train at :15 or :45 past the hour, as these are express trains to Cambridge.

If you're traveling in a party of two or more, by far the best option is to take a cab from the airport to your hotel. Don't take a taxi from the stand at the airport; they cost twice as much as a pre-booked car. Please email me (ebw23@cam.ac.uk) with your flight number and arrival times, and I will arrange a car. It will cost roughly £90 for a car to take two people from Heathrow to Cambridge, but it would be close to £50 per person to do it by train. If possible, I can also arrange a van to transport a larger group at even less cost per person.

If you want to stay in London for a few days before or after, note that Cambridge Rail Station is located roughly a mile from the city centre. A cab ride costs roughly £5 from the station to the centre of town. There is a bus station nearer the town centre, but the bus ride to Heathrow or Gatwick takes roughly three hours. The buses are quite useful for visiting some of the nearby attractions, however.
